Fish Sustainability

Our fish supplier is one of the largest importers of Frozen at Sea Cod and Haddock in the UK. They currently handle in excess of 20,000 metric tons annually from the North Atlantic.

All quotas are both well managed and stringently monitored by the National Fisheries Authorities, Governments and the EU. The quotas are set on an annual basis after close consultation with all the relevant bodies, fishermen, the Fishermen Association and government scientists.

Over the last few years we have seen significant improvements in the North Atlantic quotas, so much so, that Norway has now received MSC accreditation ( Marine Stewardship council ) for it's offshore fleet. This covers Cod, Haddock and Saithe. The Russian fishery has now entered the consultation process which is a massive positive for the trade.

On the 1st January 2010 new IUU regulations were implemented, in theory ensuring that global fish stocks are managed to new levels. All fish landed into the EU now has to meet strict reporting guidelines agreed between the catching nations and the EU. The policing of this policy ensures all fish caught anywhere in the world has to be in quota and legally caught.
